


Trail No. 1
Starting at Main Street in the village, head toward Kilkee.
You pass the Shanahan McNamara Park, GAA grounds (1 mile) on
your left and Church of Ireland graveyard on your right.
Plane crash victims are buried here. Take the first right
after the GAA grounds. If you would like a short walk, take
the first right again. Continue until you come to a T
junction and turn right again. A longer walk continues
straight until you come to a T junction and turn right.
There is beautiful rural scenery. At the next junction (2.5
miles), turn right. You are walking downhill towards Doonbeg
Bay. Beautiful view of the sea and Doughmore Sand hills
across the bay. Doonmore Castle is on the left. There is
also a current burial ground to your left. Continue walking
along by the sea front, passing where the Doonbeg River
joins the sea. Walk onwards to Doonbeg Church (3.7 miles),
which is on your left. Turn left for the village.
Trail No. 2
Follow walking trail no.1 to the GAA grounds and continue
straight to Haughs shop (2.5 miles) and turn right. Take the
next turn right. Here you can see a panoramic rural scene.
You are walking towards the sea. The road is above sea
level. At the T junction, turn right by a Quarry. You are
walking downhill towards Doonbeg Bay. Beautiful view of the
sea and Doughmore Sandhills across the bay. Doonmore Castle
is on the left. There is also a current burial ground to
your left. Continue walking along by the sea front, passing
where the Doonbeg River joins the sea. Walk onwards to
Doonbeg Church, which is on your left. Turn left for the
village.
Walking Trail No. 3
Follow walking trail no.2 to Haughs shop (2.5 miles) and
turn right. Continue straight until you come to a four cross
junction (3.2 miles). Baltard School is to the left. Turn
left at this junction. Continue down the road which leads to
Baltard Bay (5 miles). Amazing cliff scenery. Beautiful and
scenic walk along a quite road.
Trail
No.4
Follow walking trail no.2 to the four cross junction (3.2
miles), with Baltard School towards your left. Turn right at
this junction. This road leads straight to the White Strand
Beach (2.1 miles). Again this walk is a peaceful panoramic
view of rural life, with breathtaking views.
Trail No.5
Follow walking trail no.2 to the four cross junction (3.2
miles), with Baltard School on your left. Walk on straight
at this junction, the road eventually bears to the right,
where you can see a panoramic view of the sea along this
entire road. The road leads to Caherlean Cottages. You can
witness the rural scenic view looking out over the sea.
Tranquil and peaceful. After Caherlean Cottages, the road
bears right leading to a T junction. If you turn left, this
leads to the White Strand (2.6 miles). In the car park there
is a monument dedicated to a great Olympic winner, Pat
McDonald. You can also see the beautiful Doughmore Sandhills
across the beach to the right.
Trails 6 & 7
Advisable to bring Wellingtons or boots. Both these walks
link up so you can walk an entire circle. Along walking
trail no. 6, approximately 1/2 mile in from the road, you
see a lake and marsh to your left. There is a children's
burial ground from famine times on your right . This area
contains great wildlife especially for the bird watcher. The
area is also known for its natural flora and fauna. A forest
can be seen about 1 mile inwards. No traffic, houses or
noise. Beautiful, tranquil, scenic view of nature at its
best. The road will link up with walking trail No. 6 and
bring you back to the road.
